A post mortem is being carried out after Monday’s discovery of a woman’s body in a dam at a Hare Krishna retreat near Murwillumbah in northern New South Wales.
Police suspect the body is that of a 30-year-old woman from the Tweed Heads area.
Hare Krishna spokeswoman Hema Sundari says the woman was visiting the retreat and was not a member.
“Our small Hare Krishna community is very shocked and upset by this tragedy,” she said.
“We are all cooperating with the police during their investigations.”
Police Inspector Greg Carey says a number of witnesses including the woman’s partner are helping with inquiries.
“He has been assisting police, he is currently in the Tweed Heads area I believe and police have been liaising with him constantly during yesterday and today.”
