For the Good of Others

Here is a copy of H.G. Bhurijana Prabhu’s poem to Srila Prabhupada.

namah om vishnu-pādāya krishna-prestāya bhū-tale
srimate bhaktivedānta-svāmin iti nāmine
namaste sarasvate deve gaura-vane-pracarine
nirvesesa-sunyavadi-pascatya-desa-tarine

For the Good of Others

For the good of others
For their welfare
You struggled
You planned
You spoke
You wrote—
You lived
For the eternal good of others
For their Krishna consciousness
You gave all selflessly

For the service of the Unlimited
You
who are unlimited
pushed
us
who were limited
beyond our capacity
beyond our sincerity

Straining and immature
helping and hurting others
—sometimes terribly—
we sometimes
like a tightened rubber band
released
retracting forcibly back again
to our normalcy

I’m learning
Srila Prabhupada
That only the viewpoint
of eternity
reveals perfection
Your eye
and heart on Braja
saw only eternal good
And Krishna’s indomitable will
And saving fallen jivas

Prabhupada
I read and talk
of Philosophy
of eternality
of Goloka
with intelligence
and lecturing words I speak
But realization—
My soul longs
to ease this duality
longs to see from eternity
from Braja in Krishna’s service

Granted Braja vision
How all would change!
How different austerity would seem!
As would inconvenience
pleasure and pain!
But now
soul and vision trapped
encased
small and dull
like a jewel sparkling within
fleeting time’s mud

Times change
lighting shifts the landscape view
Noontime judges dawn
Yet clearly—
for the good of others
for their welfare
You struggled
You planned
You spoke
You wrote—
You lived
For the eternal good of others
For their Krishna consciousness
You gave all selflessly

To that eternal good
of Braja’s loving service
that you carried—
To that love
inspiring your gift-
and to you who act
only for the good of others
I offer my obeisances forever

Your eternal servant,
Bhūrijana dāsa
